"Di Mauro" 4/4 guitar (1950s) Manouche
This guitar isn't a parlor model, like other similar ones often seen online. This guitar is a full-size 4/4, the same size as a concert classical guitar.
It's built in France, features a solid cedar top, mahogany sides, and a maple and mahogany laminate back. The neck is made of mahogany with a rosewood fingerboard.
The frets are bronze and in very good condition. The scale is 66 cm. It is strung with 0.10/47 Manouche strings.
It has some scratches over the original varnish, but no cracks or repairs. The frets have been refinished and are in very good condition.
Two of the plastic buttons on the tuning head were replaced with similar ones.
It has been overhauled and completely restored. It's fully operational, working well, and very comfortable to play, with a great sound.
Antoine Di Mauro was born in Catania in 1900, brother of Joseph Di Mauro "senior" (1893-1966), and father of Joseph Di Mauro "junior" (1932-2001). Before arriving in Paris in 1934, he was already making guitars and mandolins in Catania. Once in Paris, he continued his luthier business, setting up shop in the back of a furniture store in the 20th arrondissement. A few years later, in 1936, he opened his first workshop on the Impasse Rançon. Then, after a move in 1942, he settled at 47 Rue de la Réunion in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, in his famous workshop bearing the sign: "LUTHERIE MODERNE." In particular, Selmer Maccaferri jazz guitar models such as Saint Louis Blues, Boogie-Woogie and Spécial Chorus created by Antoine Di Mauro.
